Working with trauma in drama therapy 2026 – 2027

An advanced training for drama therapists

(9 modules starting in January 2026 until March 2027)

Based on the assumption that we humans are capable of transforming traumatizing experiences, this training series focuses on the possibilities of theater therapy to initiate and accompany healing processes in traumatized people through the healing powers of the body and play.

Theater-therapeutic bodywork and forms of play make it possible to experience safety and protection and at the same time to feel boundaries, support and connection. This is a prerequisite for (re)gaining impulse control and emotion regulation and thus finding a lively way of dealing with inner and outer boundaries. Building on this, dramatic reality allows the symbolic representation of traumatizing experiences in a clearly defined protective space and a state of being held, a central prerequisite for being able to assign the traumatic experience a place in the past that no longer dominates present life.

Training in theater therapy is a prerequisite for this advanced training course. If you attend all 9 weekends, you will receive an ITT training certificate.
If places are available, it is also possible to take part in individual weekends if you meet the requirements; participants in the entire training course have priority. Please contact Ingrid Lutz, lutz@theatertherapie.org.
